School Resource Officers (SRO)
The School Resource Officer Training Basic Officer class has been developed to provide currently active peace officers with the basic skills necessary to function in the role of a School Resource Officer.
Training
Training has been developed and implemented for the certified peace officer that has been assigned the responsibility of a School Resource Officer in the local school system without previous experience in this position. The basic training course will assist the officer in making the transition from the area of traditional law enforcement into working in a community policing environment.
At the conclusion of the training, the officer will have a basic knowledge of the history and concept of the SRO program, practical skills of interviewing and teaching, legal issues that relate to the school environment, current trends in youth culture and information to assist in the development and implementation of an SRO program in the school in which they are assigned.
The training will assist the officer in making working with the school community and leadership skills necessary to manage a successful program.
At the conclusion of the training, the officer will have received additional information in the history and concept of the SRO program, practical skills of interviewing and teaching, legal issues that relate to the school environment, current trends in youth culture and information designed to manage and organize a SRO program within their agency.
